The Northeast PA IWW celebrated International Workers Day with a spirited march through the streets of Scranton. The march was led by local Wobblies and authors, Margo and Marnie Azzarelli. They guided marchers through important historical spots in labor history, including the site of a major clash between capital’s reactionary forces and striking workers in which four striking workers were killed. Marchers also stopped by the Verizon building, which is currently being struck by nearly 40,000 workers trying to protect their jobs against corporate greed. The march ended with a rally in front of the John Mitchell statue in Courthouse Square where workers discussed the need to continue the struggle for workers rights, including the struggle to increase the minimum wage in Pennsylvania, which has one of the lowest minimum wages in the region.
